Conductor: Jürg Henneberger
Orchestra/Ensemble: Ensemble Phoenix Basel

This recently produced CD by, the many times awarded composer Detlev Müller-Siemens presents multifarious works written for an ensemble.
For the cycle "Phoenix 1-3" freely chosen basic material is ”deformed” out of its self following certain rules and so often until its original state appears again. Through this there arise a limited number of transformations which all move in the same space and have a common basic character. Each of the three pieces moves in its own way between the extremes of a compact tonality on the one side and a linear intricate melody on the other.
"Light blue, almost white" relates to a text from Samuel Beckett. Müller-Siemens associates 'light blue' with a melancholic basic tendency, like it is to be found in cool-jazz but also in the Japanese art. 'Almost white' refers to a noisy sound range, the breath.
The title “Cuts” stands for both, the cuts (turning point) in time and also for the longitudinal sections. A quarter tones Cantilena for the saxophone in the second set gets spun around weightless circling lines, melodic, murmuring voices which do not perceive each other.
