Concert
with the Ensemble Phœnix Basel at “Gare du Nord”, Basel. Works
by Volker Heyn, Mauricio Kagel and Jochen Neurath
”Im Zentrum stand Meister Kagel” (The focus was on Master Kagel)
….A string quartet, a piano played by four hands and two percussionists.
Richly equipped with instruments, illusive, commenting and with some irony,
they present the texts in a colourful and witty way. Accompanied by Christmas
bells, the piece ends with an “eye wink”. The musicians of the Ensmble
Phœnix filled the music with an impacting life. Van Tassel’s interpretation
of the texts was many faceted and done with fine humour.

...Moreover, Van Tassel extended the anniversary hyper- illustrations on to
the stage. He appeared as a diabolic Nô- actor, than again he was there
with his sadistic “baritone-grin”. Jürg Henneberger and his
Ensemble Phoenix Basel proved once again that they can match with the most impulsive
interpreters in the genre.
And if, and when, the melancholic phases of this work reminds one of the pertinent
idiomatic of the early 30ies, the nostalgic interior of the "Gare du Nord"
seems to transform us onto the original stage.
